2. Booking and Contract
A booking request becomes a binding agreement when the booking has been confirmed by Paws & Compass and, where applicable, the required payment has been received.
The person making the booking must be at least 18 years old, unless otherwise agreed with Paws & Compass.
When making a booking, you are responsible for providing accurate and complete information, including information relevant to your participation, health, fitness, experience, allergies, dietary requirements and any other circumstances that may reasonably affect the activity.
For bookings involving children or minors, the booking person is responsible for ensuring that the minor meets the requirements of the activity and is appropriately supervised where required.
The specific description of the activity, including duration, meeting point, included equipment, price and any activity-specific requirements, forms part of the agreement.
3. Prices and Payment
All prices are stated in Swedish kronor (SEK) unless otherwise specified.
The price applicable to your booking is the price displayed or otherwise communicated at the time of booking.
The booking confirmation will specify the payment method and any applicable payment deadline.
A booking may be cancelled by Paws & Compass if payment has not been received by the agreed deadline.
Unless otherwise stated, the price includes only the services and equipment expressly described in the relevant activity description or booking confirmation.
Travel to and from the meeting point is normally not included.
Personal insurance, travel insurance and other costs not expressly included in the booking are the participant’s responsibility.
4. Activity Information and Participant Responsibility
Outdoor activities involve an inherent element of risk.
Mountain, forest and winter environments may involve, among other things:
- uneven, steep or slippery terrain
- snow, ice and difficult surface conditions
- cold temperatures and changing weather
- reduced visibility
- water, streams and other natural hazards
- falling branches, rocks or other natural objects
- encounters with wildlife
- physical exhaustion
- falls and other accidents
- isolation and limited access to emergency services.
Paws & Compass takes reasonable measures to plan and conduct activities responsibly and to reduce foreseeable risks.
However, outdoor activities cannot be made completely risk-free.
Participants are expected to follow the instructions given by the guide and to behave in a responsible manner throughout the activity.
The guide may modify the route, activity, pace, duration or itinerary when reasonably necessary for safety, weather, environmental conditions, participant ability or other operational reasons.
5. Fitness, Experience and Health
Participants are responsible for assessing whether an activity is appropriate for their physical condition, experience and abilities.
Information provided on the website regarding difficulty, duration or fitness requirements is intended as general guidance and does not constitute medical advice.
Participants must inform Paws & Compass before the activity of any condition, injury, allergy, medication, dietary requirement or other circumstance that could reasonably affect their ability to participate safely.
Participants should seek appropriate medical advice if they are uncertain whether an activity is suitable for them.
You must not participate while under the influence of alcohol, recreational drugs or any substance that may impair your judgement, coordination or ability to follow safety instructions.
Paws & Compass may refuse or discontinue participation where, in the guide’s reasonable judgement, participation would create an unacceptable safety risk to the participant, the guide, other participants, animals or the environment.
Where participation is refused or discontinued for safety reasons caused by the participant’s own circumstances or conduct, no refund is automatically guaranteed. Any refund will be assessed in accordance with the applicable cancellation terms and mandatory consumer rights.
6. Equipment
Where equipment is included in an activity, Paws & Compass will provide the equipment specified in the activity description or booking confirmation.
Participants are responsible for using provided equipment appropriately and following the guide’s instructions.
Participants must notify the guide immediately if equipment appears damaged, unsuitable or unsafe.
Participants remain responsible for their own personal equipment and belongings.
Paws & Compass is not responsible for loss of or damage to personal belongings except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
For winter activities, participants must bring the clothing and personal equipment specified in the pre-trip information.
Weather and terrain conditions may require additional clothing or equipment. The guide may refuse participation if a participant arrives inadequately equipped and participation would create a safety risk.
7. Activities Involving Dogs
Some Paws & Compass activities involve dogs belonging to Paws & Compass and/or dogs belonging to participants.
Participants must follow all instructions relating to the handling, welfare and safety of dogs.
When bringing your own dog, you confirm that:
- you are legally entitled to bring and handle the dog
- the dog is suitable for the planned activity
- the dog is reasonably fit for the activity
- the dog is appropriately vaccinated and/or otherwise compliant with applicable requirements
- the dog does not have a contagious illness
- you will inform Paws & Compass in advance of relevant behavioural, medical or other issues
- you will follow all instructions given by the guide concerning your dog
Dogs must be under appropriate control throughout the activity.
Paws & Compass reserves the right to refuse a dog from participating where its behaviour, health, fitness or other circumstances may create a safety or animal-welfare concern.
The welfare of the dogs participating in an activity takes priority over completing the planned route or itinerary.
The guide may modify, shorten or terminate an activity if necessary for the welfare of a dog.
8. Skijoring and Ski Activities
Skijoring, cross-country skiing and nordic touring skiing require participants to maintain reasonable control of themselves and, where applicable, their dog.
Participants must follow the guide’s instructions regarding speed, distance, stopping, passing and handling of equipment.
The suitability of a participant, dog, ski equipment or route may vary according to snow conditions, weather, terrain, ability and experience.
Paws & Compass may modify the planned skiing route or activity when conditions make the original plan unsuitable or unsafe.
9. Weather and Natural Conditions
Outdoor activities are dependent on weather and environmental conditions.
Weather forecasts may change and conditions in mountainous environments can differ significantly from forecasts.
Paws & Compass reserves the right to alter the itinerary, route, duration, location or format of an activity where reasonably necessary because of:
- severe or unsuitable weather
- snow or ice conditions
- avalanche or other natural hazards
- high water levels
- fire risk
- wildlife or environmental considerations
- trail or access restrictions
- participant safety
- animal welfare
- other circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Where reasonably possible, Paws & Compass will offer a suitable alternative.
10. Cancellation by the Participant
Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing by email or through the booking system, where applicable.
The cancellation conditions applicable to your booking will be communicated at the time of booking.
Unless different activity-specific cancellation terms have been agreed, the following standard cancellation policy applies:
More than 14 days before the activity:
The participant may cancel and receive a refund of the amount paid, less any non-refundable third-party costs that have been clearly communicated at the time of booking.
7–14 days before the activity:
50% of the booking price may be retained.
Less than 7 days before the activity:
The booking price may be non-refundable.
These cancellation terms do not affect any mandatory rights the participant may have under applicable Swedish or EU consumer legislation.
Paws & Compass may, at its discretion, offer a transfer to another available date instead of a refund.
Where a participant fails to attend without prior notice, the booking may be treated as a late cancellation or no-show.
11. Statutory Right of Withdrawal
Where a booking is made at a distance, such as through the website, the participant may have a statutory right of withdrawal under applicable Swedish consumer legislation.
However, Swedish law provides exceptions for certain leisure activities taking place on a specific date or during a specified period.
Whether a particular booking falls within an exception depends on the nature and circumstances of the service.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to restrict or remove a statutory right of withdrawal where such a right applies.
Where an online booking is legally subject to a right of withdrawal, Paws & Compass will provide the information and withdrawal procedure required by applicable law.
12. Cancellation or Modification by Paws & Compass
Paws & Compass may cancel or modify an activity when reasonably necessary due to circumstances including, but not limited to:
- dangerous weather or environmental conditions
- safety concerns
- insufficient snow or suitable terrain
- access restrictions
- illness or injury affecting the guide
- animal welfare
- government restrictions
- natural events
- other circumstances beyond Paws & Compass’s reasonable control.
If Paws & Compass cancels an activity before it begins and no suitable alternative can reasonably be offered, the participant will receive a refund of amounts paid for the cancelled service, subject to applicable law.
Unless otherwise required by law, Paws & Compass is not responsible for additional costs incurred by the participant as a result of a cancellation, such as travel, accommodation, equipment rental or other expenses booked independently.
13. Changes During an Activity
For safety and operational reasons, the itinerary described before the activity may need to change.
The guide may alter:
- the route
- destination
- distance
- duration
- pace
- activities
- accommodation arrangements
- meeting or departure times.
Where a significant change is required, Paws & Compass will communicate the change as soon as reasonably practicable.
The primary consideration when making such changes will be participant safety, animal welfare and the responsible conduct of the activity.
14. Multi-Day Activities and Expeditions
For multi-day activities, participants will receive specific information concerning:
- itinerary
- accommodation
- food and meals
- equipment
- packing requirements
- fitness requirements
- meeting arrangements
- emergency procedures
- payment and cancellation conditions.
Accommodation, meals, transport, equipment and other services are included only where expressly stated in the booking confirmation.
Participants are responsible for bringing the personal equipment specified in the pre-trip information.
Remote expeditions may involve limited access to roads, medical facilities, communications and other services.
The itinerary may therefore need to change at short notice.
15. Travel Arrangements and Package Travel
Unless expressly stated otherwise, Paws & Compass does not arrange the participant’s travel to or from the activity location.
Certain combinations of travel services, accommodation and tourist services may legally constitute a package travel arrangement under Swedish and EU legislation.
Where an activity offered by Paws & Compass constitutes a package travel arrangement or linked travel arrangement under applicable legislation, the relevant statutory requirements will apply.
The participant will receive any information and contractual documentation required by law.
16. Personal Insurance
Participants are strongly recommended to have appropriate personal insurance covering the activities they undertake.
Depending on the activity and the participant’s circumstances, this may include:
- travel insurance
- accident insurance
- medical expenses
- rescue or evacuation
- cancellation and interruption
- personal liability
- equipment.
Participants are responsible for checking that their insurance covers the specific activities booked.
Paws & Compass does not provide personal accident, travel or rescue insurance unless explicitly stated in writing.
17. Emergency Situations
In an emergency, the guide may take reasonable measures necessary to protect the safety and welfare of participants and animals.
This may include contacting emergency services, changing the route, terminating the activity or arranging evacuation or other assistance.
Emergency services and rescue operations may involve costs for the participant depending on the circumstances and applicable Swedish rules.
Participants must cooperate with reasonable emergency instructions.
18. Participant Conduct
Participants are expected to behave respectfully towards:
- the guide
- other participants
- local residents
- landowners
- other outdoor users
- animals
- wildlife
- the natural environment.
Participants must comply with applicable laws, regulations, access restrictions and instructions from the guide.
Paws & Compass may terminate a participant’s participation if their behaviour creates a serious safety risk, significantly disrupts the activity, threatens another person or animal, or causes serious environmental or property damage.
Where participation is terminated because of the participant’s conduct, no refund will normally be provided, subject to applicable law.
19. Leave No Trace and Environmental Responsibility
Paws & Compass operates with respect for nature and encourages responsible outdoor practices.
Participants agree to:
- minimise their impact on the environment;
- respect wildlife and vegetation;
- follow applicable access and conservation rules;
- take waste with them;
- respect local regulations;
- follow the principles of responsible outdoor recreation.
Routes may be modified to reduce environmental impact or protect sensitive areas.
20. Photography and Video
Paws & Compass may take photographs or videos during activities for documentation and operational purposes.
We will not use identifiable photographs or videos of participants for marketing purposes without an appropriate legal basis or consent where required.
If you do not wish to appear in promotional photographs or videos, please inform Paws & Compass before the activity.
Any consent given for marketing use may be withdrawn for future use, subject to applicable law and circumstances where withdrawal cannot reasonably affect material that has already been lawfully published.
21. Personal Data and Privacy
Paws & Compass processes personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Swedish data protection legislation.
Personal data may be processed for purposes including:
- handling bookings;
- communicating with participants;
- providing activities;
- processing payments;
- managing safety and emergency information;
- meeting legal obligations;
- handling complaints and administrative matters.
Paws & Compass will process personal data only where there is an appropriate legal basis and will take reasonable measures to protect personal information.
Further information about how personal data is collected, used, stored and protected is provided in our Privacy Policy.
Swedish data protection rules require organisations processing personal data to have a lawful basis and to inform individuals about how their data is handled.
22. Liability
Paws & Compass will provide its services with reasonable care and in accordance with applicable law.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable law.
Paws & Compass is not responsible for loss, damage, injury, delay or additional expense caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
Participants remain responsible for their own actions, decisions and personal equipment.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions removes or limits any mandatory statutory rights available to consumers.
23. Third-Party Services
Some activities may involve services provided by third parties, such as accommodation providers, transport providers, equipment suppliers or other activity partners.
Where such services are included in a booking, the applicable contractual and statutory responsibilities will depend on the nature of the service and the arrangements involved.
Paws & Compass will provide relevant information concerning third-party services included in the booking.
24. Complaints
If you are dissatisfied with an activity or believe that the service has not been provided as agreed, please contact Paws & Compass as soon as reasonably possible.
We will review the matter and aim to resolve complaints fairly and within a reasonable time.
Complaints should be sent to:
Email: contact@pawsandcompass.com
Please include:
- your name;
- booking reference;
- date of the activity;
- description of the issue;
- any relevant supporting information.
Nothing in this section limits any statutory rights the participant may have to make a complaint or seek external dispute resolution.
25. Dispute Resolution
Paws & Compass aims to resolve disputes directly with the participant whenever possible.
Where a dispute cannot be resolved directly, the participant may have the right to seek assistance from relevant consumer authorities or alternative dispute resolution bodies.
For consumers in Sweden, this may include the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, ARN) where the matter falls within its jurisdiction.
Applicable consumer dispute-resolution rights are not affected by these Terms & Conditions.
27. Changes to These Terms & Conditions
Paws & Compass may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.
The version applicable to your booking is the version in force when your booking is confirmed, unless a change is required by law or otherwise agreed with you.
The current version will always be published on the Paws & Compass website.
28. Severability
If any provision of these Terms & Conditions is found to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, that provision shall be interpreted or modified to the extent necessary to comply with applicable law.
The remaining provisions shall remain in effect to the extent permitted by law.
